With his New-York-based CityBand, clarinet player Kinan Azmeh strikes a balance between classical, jazz and music from his homeland Syria. ‘Intensely soulful’ (NY Times).
Clarinet player and composer Kinan Azmeh is internationally renowned for his intense, spirited performances. The Syrian born musician uses music to transcend cultural barriers, for example in Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, with the New York Philharmonic and with the well-known Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans. In New York he formed the Kinan Azmeh CityBand, a four-piece band that balances between classical, jazz and Middle Eastern music.
