„Kendrick Scott Oracle“ 15.2.2020 Live At Bimhuis

As a drummer Kendrick Scott is a household name among jazz’s greatest: Herbie Hancock is a fan and he played in the bands of Charles Lloyd and Terence Blanchard. As a composer he has something to say as well. With his band Oracle he will perform music from his album A Wall Becomes a Bridge, a 12-part song cycle about overcoming obstacles both personal and collective.

‘My life’s purpose is to become an instrument of peace; to bridge divides through my music,’ says Scott, who grew up in church, where gospel music always served a higher purpose. His personal goal with his music is to make people think. ‘I want listeners’ imaginations to run wild,’ he explains. In Oracle he gives room to great talents from the New York scene; they contributed new compositions to the album, bringing together influences from jazz, hip-hop and rock.
