„60 Jahre Impulse Records“ Ein Rückblick in 4 Stunden von Andreas Müller
Vor 60 Jahren erschienen die ersten Alben auf dem Label Impulse. Ein durchaus ambitioniertes Unternehmen: die Platten steckten in aufwändigen Covern, die sogleich erkennbar waren, kosteten aber deutlich mehr als andere LPs zu der Zeit.
Zwei starke Produzenten, Creed Taylor und Bob Thiele, hatten sehr klare Vorstellungen von Qualität. John Coltrane sollte auf Impulse zum Superstar werden und bis heute steht der Name Impulse für den Aufbruch des New Thing in den sechziger Jahren mit Künstlern wie Max Roach, Charles Mingus oder Archie Shepp. Dabei besteht ein nicht geringer Teil des Label-Katalogs auch aus Kuriositäten und nicht so guten Ideen der Produzenten. Andreas Müller erzählt in der Tonart Jazz die Geschichte von Impulse Records und spielt – neben den großen Würfen – auch die eine oder andere Merkwürdigkeit.
