Jazzfest Berlin 1984 – Jazz meets Blues / The Fabulous Thunderbirds + NRBQ
The Fabulous Thunderbirds gehörten in den 1970er Jahren zu jenen weißen Blues-Bands, die für sich in Anspruch nehmen konnten, ihre „schwarzen Vorbilder“ genau studiert zu haben und daraus eine eigene Blues-Sprache entwickelt zu haben.
Mit Ulf Drechsel
1977 von Kim Wilson und Jimmy Vaughan in Austin gegründet, wurde das Quartett bald zur Blaupause für kraftvollen Texas-Blues.Die Band NRBQ um den Keyboarder und Sänger Terry Adams ging einen anderen Weg. Rhythm and Blues, Swing, Rockabilly und Rock’n Roll wurden unbekümmert durcheinandergewirbelt. Ergänzt um Posaune und Saxofon – The Whole Weat Horns – und mit dem Gast John Sebastian – einstiger Chef der Lovin‘ Spoonful – als „opening act“ machten NRBQ die Philharmonie zur Party-Location.
