Jazzfest 2022 – Umlaut Big Band und Asher Gamedze
Die 59. Ausgabe des Berliner Jazzfests im vorigen November bebte vor Vielfalt. Von großen Formationen bis hin zu kleinen, fast intimen Konzerten, fanden in den Spielstätten A Trane, Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche und vor allem auch wieder im Haus der Berliner Festspiele unter dem Festival Motto „moving back / forward“ viele, mitunter sehr experimentelle Konzerte statt.
Zu hören in „Jazz Berlin“ eine Auswahl. Los geht es mit der „Umlaut Big Band“. Das Projekt um den Pariser Saxophonisten und Komponisten Pierre Antoine Badaroux hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Musik der Swing-Ära auszugraben, die heute vergessen ist. In Berlin präsentierte die Band unter anderem Stücke der Komponistin Mary Lou Williams.Danach die Formation des südafrikanischen Schlagzeugers, Komponisten und Wissenschaftlers Asher Gamedze. Sein Konzert am 5. November auf der großen Bühne im Haus der Berliner Festspiele war eine Deutschlandpremiere: In Quartett-Formation stellte er sein Album „Dialectic Soul“ vor.
