„Pastell progressiv“ Die Komponistin und Pianistin Magali Souriau mit Henry Altmann
Um die Jahrtausendwende wurde Magali Souriau mit ihren oszillierenden Klangfarben auf einer Stufe mit der Bigbandkoryphäe Maria Schneider genannt und von der New York Times als „originellste Bigbandkomponistin unserer Zeit“ gelobt.
Die Französin aus Aix-en-Provence hatte eine eigene Bigband, schrieb für das Village Vanguard Orchestra, lehrte am Berklee College in Boston und war 2003 Inhalt eines Dokumentarfilms. Die Karriere schien gemacht – um sich dann im Verborgenen zu verlaufen. Late Night Jazz über eine berückend-entrückende Bigband-Poetin.
