Erstaunlich, dass Karl Lippegaus nicht ein Stück der wunderbaren Candid-Aufnahmen spielt… mit das Beste, was ich von Mingus kenne.
Jetzt, wo du es schreibst, fällt es mir auch auf. Vielleicht gibt es ja rechtliche Gründe. Oder ganz banal, dass Karl diese nicht ausgewählt hat, weil anderes besser und wichtiger gefunden hat.
Also wenn Dein zweiter Grund stimmt, dann frage ich mich – wie kann man „Fables of Faubus“ von „Oh Yeah“ besser finden als von „Charles Mingus presents Charles Mingus“… vor allem wenn man weiß, dass die Plattenfirma Atlantic Mingus verboten hat, den Text über den Rassisten Faubus zu singen… Dieser Text macht deutlich, um was es in diesem Stück geht… und Mingus und Richmond machen auf der Candid-Aufnahme ein unmissverständliches Statement, das auf „Oh Yeah“ einfach fehlt.
Aber Lippegaus wird seine Gründe gehabt haben – und sei es nur, dass er die Candid-Sachen nicht vorrätig hatte oder sie beim Sender nicht verfügbar war. 🙂
Ich habe oben die Platte „Mingus Ah Um“ mit „Oh Yeah“ verwechselt… „Fables of Faubus“ ist auf „Ah Um“, auf Candid als „Original Faubus Fables“ zu hören, original mit Text.
