MAX ANDRZEJEWSKI’S HÜTTE «AND THE HOMEGROWN ORGANIC GOSPEL CHOIR» (WHYPLAYJAZZ)
With the bonmots ”Cherish the butter! Praise the vegan hype! Worship the cracking of bones and all our society’s eating disorders!” this German release explore the unlikely combination of gospel and ”free” jazz. Even if you’re not in total sync with Dorrey Lin Lyles solo vocal on a couple of tunes the choir and the band are absolutely excellent. Joyful music and track 9 and 11, with the metaphors Full and Sugar, are breathtaking adventures.
Lars Mossefinn, Dag & Tid (Norway):

TANIA GIANNOULI / ROB THORNE / STEVE GARDEN «REWA» (RATTLE RECORDS)
“Rewa” is a genreless album but far from lost in the ocean. The music of “Rewa” goes beyond the known in terms of perception and imagination of time and space: murmur of sea animals, echoes of hidden forest glades, subterranean crackling, Erdgeister (Earth Spirits), secrets of an old olive tree… fables from the slumbering unconscious. It is fabrics of prepared piano, ancient Maori instruments and subtle electronics assembled/blended from improvising sessions in Athens: an antipodal collaboration of Greek jazz pianist Tania Giannouli, New Zealand musician Rob Thorne with Maori roots and New Zealand sound designer Steve Garden.
Patrik Sandberg, Orkester Journalen (Sweden):
MARCUS MILLER «LAID BLACK» (BLUE NOTE)
