„Ich erfand den Jazz“ Der Pianist Jelly Roll Morton
Allen Ernstes behauptete Jelly Roll Morton (1885-1941), er habe im Alleingang den Jazz erfunden. Indem er am Klavier den Ragtime mit dem Blues versöhnte, angeregt von der Parademusik von New Orleans.

„Ich benutzte den Begriff ‚Jazz‘ schon 1902, um den Leuten den Unterschied zum Ragtime zu verdeutlichen“, behauptete Morton. Mit den Red Hot Peppers machte er seine anspruchsvollsten Aufnahmen. Während sein „King Porter Stomp“ in der Swing-Ära zum Hit wurde, predigte Morton selbst weiterhin den „echten“ Jazz von New Orleans.
