Die Musik von Sun Ra scheint heute populärer denn je. Das Sun Ra Arkestra reist noch immer von Festival zu Festival, auch wenn der Namensgeber schon 1993 die Erde verließ und nun wahrscheinlich auf jenem Planeten regelmäßig Parties gibt, von dem er einst zur Erde kam: auf dem Saturn.

1983 weilte der Pianist und Keyboarder Sun Ra noch auf irdischem Boden und gab mit seinen All Stars (Lester Bowie, Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, Richard Davis, Clifford Jarvis, Philly Joe Jones und Don Moyé) ein Konzert beim Jazzfest Berlin. Deutlich weniger spektakulär aber nicht minder fesselnd war der Soloauftritt des Pianisten Denny Zeitlin. Den zweiten Teil seines Konzertes hören Sie in Jazz Berlin am 21. Februar.
