New York trifft Kuba Die amerikanische Pianistin und Komponistin Michele Rosewoman war Anfang 30, als sie in Berlin ihre 14-köpfige Band NEW YOR-UBA vorstellte. Mit Ulf Drechsel
Unter dem Motto „A Musical Celebration of Cuba in America“ verband sie die Sprache des zeitgenössischen Jazz mit der Tradition der Yoruba, einem westafrikanischen Volk aus dem Südwesten Nigerias.Ebenfalls in New York zu Hause war der Schlagzeuger Paul Motian. Bevor er Anfang der 70er Jahre als Komponist und Bandleader in Erscheinung trat, war er unter anderem in Bands von Lennie Tristano, Bill Evans und Keith Jarrett Drummer, der dem Schlagzeug im Jazz neue Freiheiten erspielt hatte. In Berlin spielte er im Quintett mit Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell, Jim Pepper und Ed Schuller. Konzertaufnahmen vom 4. und 3. November 1984, Philharmonie und Delphi.
