„Kronjuwelen ausgegraben“ John Coltranes „Lost Album“-Session von 1963

Am 6. März 1963 war die Band in hervorragender Spiellaune. Lange jedoch galten die Aufnahmen als verschollen, die der Saxofonist John Coltrane mit seinem legendären „Classic Quartet“ in Rudy van Gelders Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey machte.

Nun sind sie wieder aufgetaucht – in exzellenter Tonqualität. Und die Presse jubelt: schon jetzt wird das Album „Both Directions At Once – The Lost Album“ als Reissue des Jahres gehandelt.
Bemerkenswert sind diese Aufnahme tatsächlich auch deshalb, weil sie das Gerücht zu bestätigen scheinen, Coltrane hätte diese Einspielungen für ein weiteres offizielles Album in seiner Karriere vorgesehen. Aber stimmt das? Diese und viele andere Fragen, die mit dieser sagenumwobenen Session des „Lost Albums“ verbunden sind, beantworten wir in der SWR2 Jazztime.
