ANDRZEJ TRZASKOWSKI SEXTET FEAT. TED CURSON «SEANT – POLISH JAZZ VOL. 11» (POLSKIE NAGRANIA)
https://youtu.be/645AqYLemKU
Remastered and now rereleased by Warner Music, “Seant” is one of the gems of the Polish Jazz series. Back in the 60s. pianist and composer Andrzej Trzaskowski was perceived, along with Krzysztof Komeda, as one of the most important figures of the Polish jazz scene. In comparison with his earlier album („Andrzej Trzaskowski Quintet”), this recording features his group expanded into a sextet with two saxophonists, Janusz Muniak on tenor and Włodek Nahorny on alto, and the American trumpeter Ted Curson replacing Tomasz Stanko. Trzaskowski’s original compositions echoing Horace Silver and veering into avant garde, and a heart-renching jazz rendition of a Polish folk tune.
Mike Flynn, Jazzwise (U.K.):
ROLLER TRIO «NEW DEVICES» (EDITION)
Anna Filipieva, Jazz.Ru (Russia):
GRANT GREEN «FUNK IN FRANCE: FROM PARIS TO ANTIBES (1969-1970)» (RESONANCE RECORDS)
New effort from producer Zev Feldman who specializes in finding and publishing the forgotten or semiforgotten gems from the Golden Age of jazz: a two-CD eidition of three live recordings from the legendary American jazz guitarist, Grant Green, made in France in 1969 and 1970. There is the word funk in the title, but don’t expect fierce monotonous grooves on the tracks: it’s not funk per se, but rather soul jazz full of bluesy feeling. Produced by the greatest specialist in historical releases , Michael Cuscuna.
Jan Granlie, Salt Peanuts (Norway/Denmark):
DER LANGE SCHATTEN «CONCURRENCES» (TROUBLE IN EAST RECORDS)
Christine Stephan, JAZZTHETIK (Germany):
ACHIM KIRCHMAIT TRIO «GOING TO LADAKH» (O-TONE)

GILBERT HOLMSTRÖM «KONFRONTATION» (MOSEROBIE)
Cim Meyer, Jazz Special (Denmark):
ALEX GOODMAN «BORDER CROSSING» (OA2 RECORDS)
A slightly cool but still atmospheric, acoustic and melodious universe. The sophisticated compositions and arrangements by Canadian-born guitarist Alex Goodman are accommodating. All six band members are strong players and Felicity Williams nails the intricate charts – her charming voice being the only ”wind instrument”.
